Yazawa’s Atelier is a project inspired by the punk rock world of manga artist Ai Yazawa, who has created unforgettable titles like Nana, Paradise Kiss and Princess Ai. What makes Yazawa’s work so unique is her attention to detail in each character’s personal style and fashion. Her characters, stories and the world they live in have heavily influenced Tokyo’s street fashion for the last 20 years, and that spark of inspiration is still visible in local districts like Harajuku today.
Featuring two looks per model, this photo series was shot at a studio in Tokyo, Japan, and created in homage to Yazawa’s influence and an exploration of our own love for punk. ◆
