Clowning: The Art of Being Silly
Clowning depicts the ability to break free from the box of heteronormativity. Growing up in a straight world can be very confusing to LGBTQIA+ youth who often experience internalized homophobia from not wanting to be seen as "different." I, myself, had extreme internalized homophobia when I was young until I was accepted into a performing arts high school where social normality was inconsequential.
Breaking free from self hatred can feel impossible, but it's always easier with a trusted friend — one that accepts difference. The title comes from the pure joy that is felt once oneself can break free from the restraints of “normality.”
